This beautiful mansion has been built on an area of 42 acres bordering the Kalu Ganga river in the Kaluthara district of Sri Lanka. The castle was constructed by Padikara Mudali Nanayakkara Rajawasala Appuhamilage Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena in 1910. The mansion was inspired by the palace of king Ramamath Maharaja who was in India at that time. Don Arthur de Silva Mudali sent several architects from the Kudaligama area to India to see and study the architecture of the maharaja's palace. After they came back to Sri Lanka, Mudali gave an order to construct a mansion for himself with the same architectural characteristics of the maharaja's palace in India. They were used limestone and granite for the construction of this building. The bricks and tiles required for this house are imported from India, teak and oak wood from Burma, window panes, etc. from Italy and the clay tiles used for bathrooms are imported from England. Mudali brought the raw material from the Port of Colombo to Kalutara by another ship and took it along the Kalu Ganga river to his mansion. It is a very luxurious mansion with five rooms on the ground floor, six rooms on the upper floor, two office rooms, and a picture room with hanging photos, a balcony, and a central courtyard. The large mansion, with 99 doorposts and 34 windows, was designed with a natural ventilation system to cool the interior from outside winds. This castle was handed over to the Government by Mudali on July 4, 1942. At present the castle is under the Public Trustee Department and as per the request of Mr. Mudali, this house is maintained as an Early Childhood Development Center. This place has a special place among the tourist attractions as it is known as the Tajmahal of Sri Lanka.
